                                           "Jean Genies"

"Jean Genies" is an opportunity for public libraries in NSW to engage their youth in a fun program.

Drawing inspiration from the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by  Ann Brashares this voluntary program has 3-4 pairs of jeans travelling around NSW public libraries, with participating libraries decorating the jeans and holding programs or displays based around the theme before sending the jeans on to the next library.

A variety of materials can be used to decorate the jeans including paint, stencilling, beadwork, and embroidery.  Guidelines would be sent out with the jeans. Libraries could also develop a range of related activities to tie in with the jeans visit, for example craft workshops, film nights, and displays. Libraries would also be encouraged to take photos of the jeans in iconic locations for example at The Big Banana in Coffs Harbour.

The program is designed so that participating libraries can choose their level of involvement and the range of activities they organise for their young adult community.

Why Jean Genies?

The jeans appeared from nowhere, created magic in the library & disappeared!

 What the authors say:

Felicity Pulman-

How wonderful to have a pair of jeans that can help you become who you truly want to be! In the Janna Mysteries, Jannna waers

lots of different clothes ans takes on lots of different persona. She changes from a peasant girl to a "boy" on a farm, a lay sister

in an abbey, a drudge in a tavern, a pilgrim , a jongleur and a lady... but is she still the same inside? Can wearing different clothes

and going to differnt places change to real you?                                                                       www.felicitypulman.com.au

Steven Leong-

FreestleMAx promotes education and teaching in snowboarding. Through its graphic novel series FrestyleMAx also promotes

the use of libraries. In chapter 2 of both Snowboadring Whistler and Snowboarding  Mammoth, there is a scene  with FreestyleMAx

in the local library. as a travel guide htese grpahic novels also contain a village map, on which both feature the library as a

snowboarder's place of interest.   Work the moves , play the game!                                                www.freestylemax.com
